The following instruction shows you how to replace the damaged zipper pullers of your suitcase e.g. if they have been cut-open or damaged during transport.

As a lock replacement requires the suitcase to be opened, this instruction is also applicable in cases where the existing lock is damaged and cannot be opened with the correct combination or when the current combination has been forgotten. In case of forgotten lock combinations we recommend first trying the combinations from 0-0-0 to 9-9-9 as it will provide a quicker resolution compared to exchanging the lock.

For a combined lock and zipper puller repair you have to first remove the existing zipper pullers (which are still attached to the lock) following the instructions below which will allow you to open the suitcase to access the lock from the inside. Afterwards, you can follow our lock replacement guide to exchange the combination lock and return to this page to re-insert the new zipper pullers. As the original zipper pullers cannot be removed from the lock new zipper pullers have to be purchased.

STEP 1: FIND MATCHING SPARE PARTS

In order to replace the zipper pullers of your suitcase you must pay attention to the exact type of zipper puller required. As the zipper pullers are inserted into the lock of the suitcase they must be compatible with the lock type of your suitcase.

On suitcase.repair you can find the matching zipper pullers which fit the locks of many different suitcase brands. Simply search for the item model number and rest assured that the shown zipper pullers actually fit inside your suitcase lock.

STEP 2: OPENING THE ZIPPER HEAD

Use pliers to pull open the zipper head slightly.

WARNING: The zipper head is very fragile pulling the zipper head with too much strength or too high will cause the zipper head to break. The resulting damage will require exchanging the entire zipper slider which has to be performed by professional repair workshops. Such damages are not covered by the manufacturer warranty.

STEP 3: EXCHANGING THE ZIPPER PULLER

The zipper head has to be puller opened to the height which is required to pull out the zipper puller. After the damaged zipper puller has been removed you can slide in the replacement zipper puller.

STEP 4: CLOSING THE ZIPPER HEAD

After the new zipper puller has been inserted the zipper head needs to be closed again to secure the zipper puller. Use the pliers to gently press down the zipper puller.

WARNING: The zipper head is very fragile. Pressing the zipper head down too much or with too much strength will cause the zipper head to break off. The resulting damage will require exchanging the entire zipper slider which has to be performed by professional repair workshops. Such damages are not covered by the manufacturer warranty.
